Although many a time technology is made to be a villain (and yes, I am painfully aware of how often I make it seem like I am against technology), technology is not the enemy. It is the way more a more efficient future, and more often than not it can really help people live a better life. What is the enemy is those who abuse the blessing of what technology could be and manipulate it to fit their own agenda. This is what makes a colder society and this is what makes for a less empathetic community.
Technology is very complex- sometimes it seems like only a rocket scientist can navigate the complex coding and irritatingly vague instructions of supposedly helpful devices. To make it easier for the older generation to adjust to such a complex subject, Joining Generations taught residents how to use their devices and answered all questions they had. With a growing dependence on technology, teaching them how to use technology can help bolster their relationship with such an industrial society. This is important because it enhances communication between the generations, as the older one will be more adapted to something so critical to the younger generation.
The fault in society is miscommunication, as miscommunication leads to a decrease in empathy and an increase in intolerance. By sharing interests and helping each other understand what is important on both sides, people can start to better understand the people who inhabit the world with them. Once this communication is encouraged, we start to become a united and homeostatic community.
